Short Horror Film Stray in the direction of obscurity In this creepy short film, A helping neighbour is all she needs. ⛛ ------------ Directed by ------------ The Garland-Green Brothers We began with the concept of what if the pictures on the wall could move. but we couldn't just stop there, we had to create a film loaded with the most challenging VFX we have ever accomplished. The one thing we strumbled on was the ending, at first the slow motion running scene was just a side project I wanted to add (I always wanted to use the 120fps slow-mo for the film) but we couldn't decide whether to keep it in or remove it, so we summoned a family vote and it was in the greater fave of the slow-mo ending. When we first started this project it was a simple idea involving a character whatching a wired TV video. little would I know that it would be the most difficult film we have ever made and taking over 8 weeks to finish. This film is in fact a follow-up to "in the light" https://youtu.be/3YDQ2N1phmQ After "in the light" came out I still enjoyed the idea of the monster only appearing in the ligh, its a small change to the horror formula but great enough to keep it new and fresh. At the time of creating the story for this film it was not related to "in the light" at all, it was it's own story and a simple one but in a time of brean storming we went deeper into what the wired TV video means and with it came about the film you see today.....well....kinda. Me being a super wise guy I decided I didn't need a script to make this film. That we could create test shoorts and work with at a structure to base our film around. If I knew the pain and misery this caused us I would have made a script. Because we didn't plan the film, we were left doing re-shoots after re-shoots and having to delete scenes from the film for they contradicted the overall story. It got so bad with re-shooting and changing the ending that we were almost ready to give up and start a new project. Never have we been so mentally and physically exhausted on a film. But thankfully after about two months we managed to finished filming a seven minute film. Once we finished the film and endited it all together we came to a little but crippling problem, the idea that the monster only comes out in the light was ruined by one scene. The scene evolved the monster turning of the lamp and the actor turning it, it was only when we finished the film did we notice the mistakes and we feared it would confuse people as to why the monster is tuning of the light if it can only appear in the light. So we had to remove the scene (which was a shame becuase I really liked it) and change the ending and with it a another problem come up. To fix the second harlf of the film we needed the lamp in the living room to be on, however: this would mean we need to re-shoot the beginning scene again because the lamp is off, but because we were so sick of re-shooting we decided to add SFX. This would be the first time useing Special effects and we did it to fix a movie mistake, if you watch the two first shorts of Benjamin walking in the living room you can see the lamp it not as bright and flickers a little, we actually preferred it to the real light of the lamp. A short horror film created the Garland-Green Bro's, I gave it my all trying to make this film look great. I even went to the truble of digitally adding in the camera shake and continuously re-shooting and practicing with test shoots and test edits to hopefully create a better looking film. little hint: The films with a great amount of story to it, such as "Turning" and "the Two Chair's" are created by Benjamin, however, the films with little to no story such as this film and "Tortoises" are made my Paris I wonder if you can guess who created our next Film... Fun fact: This is our first ever film shot only on 4k, Although this made editing and rendering so much longer I hoped it would have a significant impact on the quality of the film. However, I feel this might be the last film to be shot on 4k becuase I cannot see any difference to the film quality when watching it on a 4k TV.
